Cinnabar is a
red sulphide of mercury that occurs in brilliant red crystals and in
red or brown amorphous masses.
Cinnabar adds a distinct color to the mineral color palette and its
twinned crystals are considered classics among collectors. The color
of cinnabar ranges from bright scarlet or cinnamon red to a brick
red with an adamantine to submetallic luster in darker specimens.
The gemstone's hardness is 2 to 2.5 and is used for making beautiful
jewelry.
The gemstone is found in regions of Spain, Serbia, China, and
