Cabochon cut is simple but yet brings out the texture and pattern of gemstones. Also the cabochon stone has not facets. But you will get different shapes of cabochon gemstones like round, pear, oval, teardrops etc. To show certain features of rocks and gemstones, jewelers also cut this into irregular shapes.
Every stone cannot be cut to make cabochon gemstones. Like if you cut diamond to make gemstone cabochon then it will loose its sparkling affect and will look very dull and plain. Wholesale cabochons are available in all sizes, shapes and colors.
To make Cabochon gemstones, jewelers first cut the rock and then saw it to get the desired shape. With the help of wax, the gemstone cabochon is then fixed on to the top stick for curving and polishing. The part of the gemstone cabochon that is fixed to the top stick is flat and the other one is curved.
Opaque gemstones are generally given en cabochon cut whereas faceting is applied to transparent stone.
Cabochons are generally given ellipse shape as the small asymmetries becomes less sensitive in this shape.
Gemstone cabochon jewelry is very popular as the cabochon stone normally has inclusions that gives wonderful patterns to the cabochon jewelry.
